Unsafe Abortion Clinics
(Where Tweens and Teens Receive Botched Abortions by Doctor’s and Staff Who Are Often Uncertified or Unlicensed, and Where Some Died.)
The Gosnell Abortion Clinic
As the many reports and articles below will show, because of weak clinic regulations by the abortion industry and government, the clinics of back alley abortionists continue to exist. This includes the clinic owned by Dr. K. Gosnell who is was tried on various counts and of murder. The terrifying thing for parents is that there are many more such clinics, and if they are in Connecticut, we do not yet know which ones they are. Our team is working to get inspection reports. Also, Connecticut does not have a Parental Notification Law which means that tweens and teens can obtain abortions without parental knowledge or involvement to help them select a safe clinic. It also means that during school hours school clinics can refer girls to abortion clinics, without parental knowledge, and even arrange for their transportation. This has happened in several states and our pro-life, pro-bono lawyers here confirm this is legal as long as we do not have a Parental Involvement Law (or Parental Notification Law). At the Gosnell clinic, police revealed the infanticide murders of many babies. These were babies who survived late term abortions, were born alive, and then murdered. The police disclosed the atrocities of their deaths, the gruesome storage of their tiny bodies or body parts in jars and containers in refrigerators, and the unsanitary clinic conditions — that nurses say put patients at risk of contracting HIV and death. Here are just several of the many articles and videos about this one clinic.
Why Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s Trial Should Be Front Page News http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/04/why-dr-kermit-gosnells-trial-should-be-a-front-page-story/274944/
Grand jury report likens Gosnell’s clinic to a ‘baby charnel house’ http://www.catholicherald.com/stories/Grand-jury-report-likens-Gosnells-clinic-to-a-baby-charnel-house,22560
WASHINGTON — When a team of health officials and investigators looking into illegal drug use raided Dr. Kermit Barron Gosnell’s Women’s Medical Society Feb. 18, 2010, they happened upon what many are calling a “house of horrors.” “There was blood on the floor. A stench of urine filled the air. A flea-infested cat was wandering through the facility, and there were cat feces on the stairs,” said a grand jury report about the conditions found in the clinic Gosnell ran in West Philadelphia.
The two surgical rooms resembled a “bad gas station restroom,” according to Agent Stephen Dougherty of the federal Drug Enforcement Agency. The team went on to recover the remains of 45 fetuses “in bags, milk jugs, orange juice cartons, and even in cat-food containers,” the report explained.
Three days later, the Pennsylvania Department of Health suspended Gosnell’s license. He was arrested in January 2011 and charged with seven counts of infanticide and one count of murder in the case of a Nepalese woman who died during an abortion. Gosnell’s trial on those charges began March 18 of this year. Following are several reports, the most important of which is the Fox News Report “See No Evil”. Its details about the “Mother’s Day Massacre” are shocking!
Fox News Report “See No Evil”
They report that Cosnell, one of original promoters of the abortion movement, was the doctor behind the promotion of the Mother’s Day Massacre and experimentation (using a new untested tool called super coil) on 15 pregnant women. In this video, they shared that 9 of 15 women suffered complications – before Roe v Wade. Not an OB/Gyn or Pediatrician; he used the name of another doctor who was board certified to open the clinic. 1978 was the first inspection and the clinic was found to not have licensed nurses on staff; officials and our government looked the other way.
Repeated inspections resulted in 0. Why? Reporters surmised it was politics — The abortion industry and state legislators felt that if there were too many inspections, too many violations would be found, and it drive the costs of abortions up which would hurt the abortion industry. It seems that protecting the abortion industry rather than patients is still the case.
America must see Gosnell Evil, so that we may rid ourselves of it http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/05/03/america-must-see-gosnell-evil-so-that-may-rid-ourselves-it/
Gosnell Trial: House of Horrors: http://video.foxnews.com/v/2343940110001/gosnell-trial-house-horrors?intcmp=related?playlist_id=940325740001
He is not an OB/GYN, unsanitary, staff no medical training – why did the medical peers and people who had to have been aware in Philadelphia not do anything about it. This is poor ethics, and has given cause to some to investigate further in this and all states. There was suspicions of corruption. Additional research found there was cover-up corruption and the courts decided to error on the side of protecting the public!!!.
Corruption & Collusion found between Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinics in Two States: Kermit Gosnell was also an abortion provider in Delaware, where abortion facilities are not subject to inspections.
After news of Gosnell’s case broke, fellow abortion providers Drs. Albert Dworkin and Arturo Apolinario had their licenses suspended for failing to report Gosnell for performing late-term abortions at Atlantic Women’s Medical Services in Wilmington, DE, where he worked one day a week.
Apolinario, like Gosnell, is charged with prescribing drugs illegally. See http://sos.delaware.gov/news/110301-gosnell_case_suspensions.shtml
Kermit Gosnell Found Guilty on Three First-Degree Murder Charges http://www.lifenews.com/2013/05/13/kermit-gosnell-found-guilty-of-on-three-first-degree-murder-charges/
The jury in the murder trial of abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell returned a verdict and found him guilty on three of the four first-degree murder charges he faced. Gosnell was found guilty of killing Baby A, Baby C and Baby D and found not guilty of killing Baby E. He was also convicted on hundreds of lesser charges ranging from infanticide to running a corrupt organization.
Summary of Charges Against Gosnell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kermit_Gosnell
The Gosnell clinic is just one of many such “back alley clinics” that have continued to exist even after the legalization of abortion with Roe v Wade in 1973. They did not fold up and go away. We have known of the Gosnell clinic since 1972, which was prior to the Roe v Wade law that was supposed to eliminate “back alley abortion clinics”. They are now defined as clinics that are so unsafe women have died in them, so unsanitary women can get HIV or Hepatitis, and are so unregulated they persist for decades. Reports mention such clinics in Illinois, Arizona, Kansas, Delaware, and Ohio, that were found to be equally unsanitary, unsafe, and to do late term abortions and baby murdering. We have no idea, at this point, how many more there are and where they are. We wonder how this could happen. Since the finding the Gosnell Clinic, we have discovered that there are many other clinics with violations dating back decades to the early 1970’s that continue to operate undisturbed. They are scattered throughout America — many of them are the old back alley clinics. Some are listed below. Many are named in the Susan B Anthony Fact Sheet: Abortion Industry Negligence Nationwide on the abortion clinics at http://www.sba-list.org/negligence. According to the CDC, the last year that statistics were gathered on the number of deaths due to abortion was 2008 when there were 12 deaths. See http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss6108a1.htm?s_cid=ss6108a1_w In talking with Department of Health in various states where these clinics have been found, they say they do not receive enough funding from the government to inspect these clinics every two years, issue fines, and follow-up on inspection reports. An example of this is the testimony by the Delaware Department of Health which explained in articles that they have a lack of resources to inspect clinics regularly. On this, we can fault the government which has supported weak regulations and inspections for the abortion industry clinics while it has been funding Planned Parenthood.
For details on government funding through Medicaid and other vehicles, see a report by the American Life League at: http://www.stopp.org/article.php?id=9078 which is based on reported numbers by the Guttmacher Institute, an arm of Planned Parenthood.
The report states, “The Guttmacher Institute, shows that Medicaid provided 70.6 percent of ‘expenditures on family planning client services’ during the fiscal year 2006 for an astounding total of $1.3 billion!”
(Note: $300,000 – $400,000 is the amount of funding to Planned Parenthood that they and the government publicize. The $1.3 billion drawn from Medicaid is generally not discussed — which is money taken from our senior citizens, disabled and chronically ill.) See http://www.stopp.org/article.php?id=9078
In Delaware Former Delaware Planned Parenthood Nurses Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and Joyce Vasikonis Testify against Dr. Liveright’s Liveright is a classic abortion circuit rider, who has performed about 50,000 abortions across the country throughout nearly three-plus decades, most recently for Planned Parenthood of Delaware. He was cited earlier this year for ten separate “acts of incompetence and negligence,” including “over-sedating patients, performing unnecessary suction procedures, causing at least one perforation during surgery, and failing to act with proper competence and diligence to avoid unnecessary complications that resulted in patients requiring emergency hospital treatment.” Melody Meanor who managed the clinic’s health center for three months in 2012 reinforced testimony from Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and Joyce Vasikonis, two former nurses. … The investigation of Planned Parenthood’s Delaware branch was triggered by “abortions, including some done by Liveright, in which bleeding or other complications occurred and injured patients had to be rushed to the emergency room,” we’re told in a story that appeared in the News Journal. In April the state Division of Public Health cited 14 violations and said inspectors found “unsafe and unsanitary conditions.” Note: Joyce Vasikonis, offered this additional information to the National Right to Life that operations are designed to keep costs down. She said, “[T]he culture of Planned Parenthood of Delaware was focused on maximizing profits and the bottom line; not quality healthcare for women. [S]peed was the ultimate goal.’ She told me that because abortion doctors were contractors and paid per procedure, they pushed the nurses to keep the women coming in and out as fast as possible, which put the women’s safety and health at risk. According to a report by the Philadelphia ABC News affiliate WPVI, ‘Since January , five patients allegedly have been rushed from the [Delaware] facility to the emergency room.….This is important to know because it confirms again what we have learned about “abortion being a business”. See the other pages under the “Abortion” tab on this site. As a result of the complaints Planned Parenthood was forced to suspend surgical abortion procedures at its Wilmington and Dover clinics this summer. The Delaware facility was even fined due to violations found by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. However, abortions were eventually reinstated due to the hiring of new staff members.” See: http://www.nationalrighttolifenews.org/news/2013/11/delaware-abortionist-abruptly-agrees-to-consent-agreement-said-to-have-been-a-clear-and-immediate-danger-to-the-public/#.UpQh_9wo7Gg
In Detroit Second Death in Hodari Clinic Due to Botched Abortions, No Ambulance, Oxygen, and Left to Die in Clinic Conditions Like Gosnell’s
The article by National Right to Life states that one of Dr. Hodari’s staff did the abortion on Regina Johnson and, afterwards, suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest. Staff at Hodari’s center allegedly failed to help her or call for an ambulance and she was deprived of oxygen for an extended time. She died a short time later at Hodari’s Womencare clinic in Lathrup Village. Though the complaint against Dr. Hodari found him guilty of “negligence,” “incompetence” and lacking in “good moral character.” Hodari paid the fine (a small $10,000) without contesting the Attorney General’s “allegations of fact and law.” Consider: The abortion industry is asking for even less regulations. See the full article at http://www.lifenews.com/state4281.html In Maryland, LifeNews reports, “Abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart is not facing charges from county officials for killing a woman in a botched 33-week abortion. Now, the state medical board has clear Carhart as well, even though he is responsible for killing Jennifer Morbelli. The official death certificate for Jennifer Morbelli confirms the young woman died on February 7, 2013, from complications to a 33-week abortion done by late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart. But the Maryland county police closed their investigation Monday without filing criminal charges. The medical examiner’s office confirmed a botched 33-week abortion killed the young woman. County officials closed their investigation and Carhart will face no charges in connection with Morbelli’s death”. In St. Louis, Mary Mashmier of Defenders of the Unborn told Operation Rescue that since 2009, her organization has documented 19 previous medical emergencies at the St. Louis Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. Complaints were filed with the medical Board and other agencies after each incident, by no action has ever been taken. “It is wrong that women are continually placed at risk of life-threatening injury and death at this obviously dangerous Planned Parenthood abortion clinic while authorities that should be looking out for patient safety turn a blind eye,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “We call on the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts to immediately halt abortions at the Planned Parenthood office in St. Louis until a full investigation in the rash of medical emergencies can take place.”
The Susan B. Anthony site, provides an 18-page document called,“Kermit Gosnell is Not an Outlier“, listing other “Houses of Horrors” showing clearly that the Gosnell clinic is not an exception to the rule. The abortion industry, in attempting to keep abortion costs down, as we have said elsewhere on this site, has not regulated itself properly. Its clinics are failing health inspections and have been damaging women for decades.
Read the SBA 18-Page List – see the document, at
How can this industry then say it is “for women”.
What have we learned from the Gosnell and other similar clinics and the abortion pro-life issue? 1) We learned that we cannot blindly trust our government (federal or local state governments), the medical industry, or our schools to always protect our children from medical harm. We don’t want to become too skeptical, but only to be watchful, aware, and to always question and proactively lobby for what we need.
ACTION ALERT: YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
With regard to the abortion clinics, your help would be valuable. On behalf of the many tweens, teens, and young ladies in Connecticut who will be seeking abortions, (an estimated 13,000 each year) we would like you to communicate with your local legislators, through calls or letters, your concerns about the weak clinic regulations and inspections we have discovered across the nation, and your desire for them to review the Connecticut laws pertaining to abortion clinics that do surgery (not all clinics do surgery, some provide other services).
About your letters
Letters should be about 400-500 words, polite of course, and take into consideration that this may be the first time the legislators are hearing about the poor condition of our nation’s abortion clinics, which may include one or more of Connecticut’s clinics. They may become shocked. Be patient.
Share links to information
Share some of the above information which will quickly explain to them much of the cause for your concern. By sharing your concern, you will help us to educate legislators in Connecticut. It’s a long hard job, because their plates are full handling many other issues that cover a wide spectrum — such as transportation, education, and driver licensing of illegal immigrants — and they are just now beginning to learn a little about pro-life issues. Our media does not cover pro-life very well. Generally, if they hear anything, it will be from those lobbying for choice who are very well funded.
What do we want legislators to do?
We would like our legislators in Connecticut to investigate the laws pertaining to abortion clinics and determine if they are adequate or if they need to be adjusted or enhanced. Following are some suggestions for you to consider. Use those that you feel comfortable with. We would like legislators to determine
– What are the standards the Connecticut clinics are operating to? Are they “hospital standards” and if not, will they medically protect the health of our tween and teen patients. For example, do all abortion clinics in Connecticut have “contingency plans“ in place to deal with the medical complications of botched abortions. The plan might include a list of emergency items — that handle most situations — such the patient’s medical history from her doctor, an oxygen supply, ambulance service, ER staff, standby hospital surgeons, and blood for transfusions that match the girl’s blood.
– If the clinics are inspected often enough (now the requirement is every four years; it originally was every two years and was mistakenly changed). The legislators involved treated all abortion clinics equally and did not differentiate for those that do surgical abortions and need stricter standards and more frequent inspections.
– if inspection reports are being fully filled out
– if violations are being followed up on and how long it takes (months, years – for Gosnell it took over a decade).
– It would helpful to girls or parents who are evaluating clinics to have an annual inspection report generated for each of the clinics in Connecticut, and have each of them easily accessible in one place online
– Talking about parents, we really need to ask for a Parental Involvement Law – year after year, legislators in Hartford defeated bills for a Parental Notification Law (which is actually less adequate than a Parental Involvement Law). However, at the time, they were not aware of the poor status of our nation’s clinics, that abortions are actually complex procedures*, or of the corruption to cover up atrocities — that permitted clinics like Gosnell’s to exist for decades. Please ask for one.
* (Note: the abortion industry brain washed legislators into thinking abortions were nothing more than the D&C procedure a woman has after a miscarriage. Wrong. We now have the job of re-educating and we truly welcome your help.)
Let us know how you do. You may get a response back. When members wrote to legislators to help defeat the two Physician Assisted Suicide bills of 2014 and 2013, many received “Thank You” notes back — encouraging them to continue to communicate. Legislators at the public hearings told us their letters were informative and interesting, and we should keep encouraging you to write.
Write us if you have questions.
